The New Zealand International Education Conference KI TUA (NZIEC KI TUA) is the annual conference for New Zealand’s international education sector.
Established in 1991, NZIEC KI TUA brings together practitioners and leaders from across New Zealand’s international education sector to share good practice and explore strategies for future growth and development. It provides an opportunity to discuss, strategise and connect with expert speakers and delegates.
NZIEC KI TUA 2024 will be held on Tuesday 6 to Thursday 8 August 2024 at Tākina Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington.
A welcome function will occur on Tuesday evening; two days of conference sessions will be held on Wednesday and Thursday.
NZIEC KI TUA’s mission is to stimulate international education thinking in Aotearoa New Zealand.
NZIEC KI TUA’s values include:
• Hononga: Connections
• Māramatanga: Enlightenment
• Wero: Challenge
• Ārahitia: Direction/Leadership.
In 2022, NZIEC was gifted a new ingoa Māori (te reo Māori name): NZIEC KI TUA.
The name was inspired by the following whakataukī:
Look positively toward the future, Better times are coming.
Ki Tua is not about returning to the ‘status quo’. It’s about reconnecting to the world, finding a fresh perspective, and taking a new approach.
The adoption of NZIEC KI TUA reflects ENZ’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Maihi Karauna, the Crown’s Strategy for Māori Language Revitalisation.
Our new name of NZIEC KI TUA also reflects Aotearoa New Zealand’s distinct cultural identity and the importance of continuing to develop our sector’s annual conference.

The primary audience for NZIEC KI TUA is New Zealand’s international education providers.
New Zealand’s international education providers include:
• Schools (from primary to secondary)
• Te Pūkenga
• Universities
• English language schools
• Private training establishments
• Wānanga
• Education technology companies
• Education publishers.
While representatives from many other organisations and sectors attend the conference (including student recruitment agents, local and central government officials, and NGOs), we are particularly interested in speakers who can connect with, and provide advice and tips to, our primary audience of international education providers.
We estimate approximately 500 delegates will attend NZIEC KI TUA 2024.
Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao (ENZ) is the host of NZIEC KI TUA. ENZ is the government agency dedicated to helping Aotearoa New Zealand realise the social, cultural and economic benefits of international education. We promote New Zealand as a study destination and support the delivery of education services offshore. We also administer scholarships to support New Zealanders studying overseas particularly in Asia and Latin America.
