The New Zealand International Education Conference and Expo (NZIEC) is the annual conference for New Zealand’s international education industry.
Established in 1991, NZIEC is now in its 28th year. It’s fast becoming the ‘go-to’ event on the global international education circuit.
NZIEC brings together hundreds of practitioners and leaders from across New Zealand’s fourth-largest export industry to explore strategies for growth. It provides an opportunity to discuss, strategise and connect with expert speakers and delegates.
NZIEC’s mission is to lead international education thinking. We also have a vision to become the coolest international education conference on the planet!
NZIEC 2019 is a two-day conference held at SKYCITY Auckland Convention Cenre on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 August.
The NZIEC programme is curated to appeal to the diverse audience that the conference attracts. With industry commentators, specialist presentations, external experts and invited keynote presenters, this year’s programme is shaping up to be one of our most exciting yet.
Keynote and plenary speakers address matters of relevance to the entire international education industry. Breakout sessions allow for the in-depth exploration of topics related to many different components of the industry.
Networking is a feature of the conference programme, and delegates are given multiple opportunities to connect, whether during morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea breaks, or at the conference dinner on Thursday night. At the heart of the conference is the Expo Hall, a space where you can network and connect with our conference partners and exhibitors over a cuppa.
NZIEC 2019 also offers opportunities for delegates to engage with each other and industry experts through meet-ups, small expert sessions and sponsor lounges.
NZIEC 2017 attracted 738 delegates from 21 countries, making it the largest in the history of the conference. 95% of those delegates said they were likely to recommend NZIEC to colleagues.
Typically, one-third of the NZIEC audience hails from the tertiary sector, with another third from the school sector. Other attendees include education technology and services businesses, student recruitment agents, economic development agencies, central government representatives, and foreign dignitaries.
Last year, 95 delegates came from 20 countries around the world. Top countries included: Australia, the United States, India, China, Singapore, Canada, Indonesia, Japan and Malaysia.
What delegates say
We strive to deliver a conference that exceeds expectations. Here’s a sample of the unsolicited feedback we received from last year’s attendees:
- “Congratulations on a World Class conference!! It was amazing and very well executed!!”
- “Fantastic organisation. Really must congratulate all that put the event together. Great choice for keynote and other speakers. Smaller breakaway sessions with plenty of interesting topics. Great food and the jazz and bar really allowed for good networking opportunities. Best NZIEC by a country mile.”
- “Just wanted to say thanks for having me over in Auckland. Everything went super smooth and was really well organised. Even us on the debate panel from Australia were commenting how well the conference was run compared to other international ed conferences we’d all been to.”
- “Thank you for a great conference. Best one yet. I yawn when I start counting the education conferences I’ve been to around the world, and some have been shockers! But this was the first for a long time that managed to induce “post-conference depression”; you know: a low feeling following on from a real high!”
